Thermocouple Measurement DAQ HAT for Raspberry Pi

The MCC 134, a thermocouple measurement Hardware Attached on Top (HAT), is specifically designed for the Raspberry Pi, the leading single-board computer in today's market. This HAT is an additional board equipped with a 40W general purpose input/output (GPIO) connector that aligns with the Raspberry Pi HAT specification. It offers four isolated thermocouple inputs and allows for stacking of up to eight MCC DAQ HATs on a single Raspberry Pi.

The 40-pin GPIO connector on the MCC 134 header can be plugged into a user-supplied Raspberry Pi. It has been tested for compatibility with all Raspberry Pi models that have a 40-pin GPIO connector. The HAT configuration parameters are stored in an onboard EEPROM, enabling the Raspberry Pi to automatically set up the GPIO pins upon connection of the HAT.

The stackable feature of the MCC DAQ HAT boards allows users to combine different MCC HAT models in a single stack on the Raspberry Pi. Users can connect up to four differential thermocouples (TC) to the input channels of the MCC 134. The types of TC are software-selectable per channel and can be updated at a minimum interval of one second. To minimize noise and provide protection from harsh electrical environments, the thermocouple inputs are electrically isolated from the Raspberry Pi.

The MCC 134 is equipped with three high-resolution cold-junction compensation (CJC) sensors and features open-thermocouple detection (OTD) for all TC input channels. This allows users to monitor the board for any broken or disconnected thermocouples. The power for the MCC 134 is supplied by the Raspberry Pi through the GPIO header connector, with voltages of 3.3 V and 5 V.

For application development on the Raspberry Pi using Linux, users can utilize the open-source MCC DAQ HAT Library of commands in C/C++ and Python. This library, which supports operation with multiple MCC DAQ HATs running concurrently, is available for download from GitHub. Comprehensive API and hardware documentation is provided, along with console-based and user interface (UI) example programs.
